| I know this post may qualify for the polls section, but I am really more interested in information rather than opinions on what I should do. I have 4 Volk TE-37 wheels for my daily driver that are currently gunmetal. I found them used for a great deal. They are in pretty decent shame, except for a few minor spots of curb rash. My ulitmate goal is to paint/pc them to a semi-gloss black. A local shop by me says they will re-finish the wheels and take care of all the rash, but paint them with a 3 coat paint finish and guarantee them for 3 years (how I dont know). I also inquired from another forum company about having them powder coated, and they said it can be done. The prices are about the same. I have questions now because the local shop by me told me they wouldnt do the powder coating because the paint will be just as good, and the powder coating will be overkill. However, I thought the powder coating process was more durable, especially for a car I will be driving everyday in the metropolitan NY area highways. But, if it is indeed over kill, and they are completely re-finished, guaranteed for 3 years, and its easier because it is a local shop, that seems the way to go. Should I feel comfortable with the paint finish on wheels? Will a 3 stage paint chip more readily than powder coat? Anyone with information, especially those with experince is greatly appreciated.
